Jennifer Jo Cobb Set for 200th NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Start

Jennifer Jo Cobb Set for 200th NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Start

On Sunday, August 16, the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Series will have two significant milestones – the series will make its debut on the historic Daytona International Speedway Road Course and Jennifer Jo Cobb, driver of the No. 10 Fastener Supply Company Chevrolet Silverado, will make her 200th series start.

Cobb made her series debut in 2008 at her home track of Kansas Speedway before forming her own team in 2010.  She has entered every race since 2010 as a team owner, also fielding trucks for other drivers as a teammate.

Fastener Supply Company will also launch a rebranded logo, after more than 60 years, placing it on the prestigious hood location of the No. 10 Truck as part of this special event.  The new logo design is by Paradigm Multimedia Marketing, the parent company of Paradigm Racing, also a partner with Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing (JJCR).

Fastener Supply Company, a fastener solutions provider based in Charlotte, N.C. with a total of five locations throughout the Southeast, will be a full-time sponsor of Cobb’s team for the rest of the 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series season.

“We are very excited to be aligning with Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing for the rest of this year, and hopefully to continue doing so in the future,” said Donnie Shrum, President of Fastener Supply Company.  “This partnership adds value to both of our organizations, and we have the ultimate respect for Jen and her team.  Her accomplishments in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Series would be impressive for any driver, but especially so for a woman who helped set the stage for other females to enter the profession.  We are so proud to have her represent our company.

Stacy Mears, Director of Marketing, added “We are also very thankful to Aaron Farrier and Paradigm Multimedia Marketing for the work that he has done on our rebranding project.  We think that our new logo helps us better define our brand, which is to provide innovative fastener solutions to our customers.  We adapt and change with the times in order to best support their requirements.”

“To have our partners working together and pledging more support to JJCR during this very special year is amazing,” Ms. Cobb said. “This year we have this great new sponsor in Fastener Supply Company, a new Crew Chief (Brian Keselowski) and spotter (Clayton Hughes) and it just seems like there is a renewed effort and positive momentum taking place for our team.”

Watch for Jennifer Jo Cobb and the No. 10 Fastener Supply Company Chevrolet in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Race on Sunday, August 16 at 12:30 pm ET on FS1

2020 SEMA show canceled by COVID 19

2020 SEMA show canceled

The annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show scheduled for November will not be taking place in 2020, due to COVID-19 and concerns that event facilities and services will be unavailable,

Recent SEMA Show survey results indicated interest in a possible virtual tradeshow with related live elements so SEMA officials will be working with industry members to determine interest levels on specific alternatives.

"The SEMA Show is committed to furthering businesses in the automotive specialty equipment market, and to providing manufacturers and buyers with the best opportunity to connect, promote new products and discover new trends," said Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO. "We appreciate the spirit, hard work and innovation our industry puts into the SEMA Show each year. While we are disappointed circumstances prevent us from hosting the Show in November, we look forward to getting everyone together in 2021 for another outstanding event."

The 2021 SEMA Show is scheduled for November 2 – 5 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The wild custom "Chain Smoker" Truck

Chain Smoker Truck

A hot rod builder found a 1947 Fargo FL1 truck in a field in Manitoba several years ago and bought it as his next project. It is a rare vehicle to see in the United States - the Fargo Motor Company was started in 1928 by the Chrysler Corporation so that Chrysler, Plymouth and DeSoto dealers could sell trucks.  United States sales of Fargo trucks were abysmal and Fargo distribution in the United States was discontinued at the end of the 1930 model year after just 7,680 trucks were built.

But worldwide, and particularly in Canada, the Fargo brand was used until 1972 as Chrysler-Plymouth dealer products while Dodge trucks were sold at Dodge dealers. This explains why the 1947 Fargo FL1 looks just like a 1947 Dodge W series pickup truck.

The builder, Warwick Andrews of the Andrews Auto Gallery in Calgary decided to try a different construction technique and used welded chain in place of sheet metal.  He stretched the front end 6 inches to accommodate the compound turbocharged 12-valve Cummins diesel engine that Andrews claims develops 1200 horsepower and 2000 foot/pounds of torque and filled the gap at the cowl with welded chain.

The front and rear fenders were widened also using welded chain and Andrews created a front valance and rear pan under the tailgate using this same technique. The result is the unique Chain Smoker truck as seen at the 2019 SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in Las Vegas.
