Autoweek journalist Al Pearce honored
Each year, the membership of the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) selects quarterly recipients as well as an overall winner of the Spirit Award sponsored by Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.
Veteran journalist Al Pearce of Autoweek magazine has been named the third quarter recipient of the NMPA Pocono Spirit Award. Pearce raised more than $13,000 through the sale at auction. of a helmet bearing the signatures of the 20 living World Driving Champions as well as those of Phil Hill and Sir Jack Brabham prior their passing. The project took Pearce nearly four years to complete and the auction proceeds went to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, the Kyle Petty Charity Ride, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, and the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation.

Pearce, who is currently working on another autographed helmet program to collect 18 NHRA Top Fuel champion signatures, joins NASCAR Sprint Cup Series spotter Chris Osborne and artist Jeanne Barnes as quarterly recipients for 2016.
