2016 SEMA Hall of Fame inductees

Matt Agosta, Chip Foose and Gary Hooker will be inducted into the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Hall of Fame as part of the festivities during the SEMA Installation Gala, on Friday, July 29, 2016, at the Sheraton Fairplex Conference Center in Pomona, California. They represent an accomplished group of leaders who have shaped and inspired the automotive specialty-equipment market and join an elite group of industry icons and innovators who have already been enshrined in the SEMA Hall of Fame.

Matt Agosta

The president/CEO of Steele Rubber Products is a pioneer in advocating for legislative issues, forging relationships with OEMs and supporting small businesses to succeed. He is responsible for advancing educational opportunities for the industry, and has been on the forefront of utilizing the newest digital strategies for the industry’s growth. Past honors include the Chairman’s Award from the SEMA Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO), ARMO Person of the Year award and SEMA Ambassador Award. As a former SEMA Board member, past chairman of a SEMA council and a president’s club member of the SEMA Political Action Committee, Agosta is among the most active members in SEMA history.

Chip Foose

As the star of the hit television show “Overhaulin’,” Foose is among the most well-known builders in the industry, and arguably responsible for introducing car customization and hot rodding to a mainstream audience worldwide. Before launching Foose Design, Foose created and fabricated projects for influential corporations and OEMs. His work can be seen in the National Football League, Major League Baseball and movies, including “Blade Runner,” “Robo Cop” and “Gone in 60 Seconds.” In 1997, Foose was the youngest person to ever be inducted into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame. He has also received the Goodguys Trendsetter Award and dozens of awards for winning vehicle builds.

Gary Hooker

 “CAR-BONATED”
THE FIAT 500 PEPSI®
“LIVE FOR NOW” CAR

Halfway through Milan Design Week 2016, Garage Italia Customs, Fiat and Pepsi® unveiled a unique car, the Fiat 500 Pepsi®  “Live for Now” Car. The exclusive, one-of-a-kind Fiat 500 Pepsi® “Live for Now” Car will be on show inside the PepsiCo “Mix It Up” space, Superstudio 13, until April 17th.

In close collaboration with the PepsiCo Design & Innovation Center, Lapo Elkann’s Garage Italia Customs Style Centre brought to life the fun, excitement and design essence of Pepsi® into a new medium – a Fiat 500. With the iconic Pepsi®  colors of blue, white and red for both its exterior and interior, this custom Fiat 500 has become a pure expression of pop.

The exterior was wrapped by first applying a Pepsi®  blue film on the bottom part of the car and digitally printing the tailor-made film for the top. A candy red film covers parts of the rims and the chrome details.

The interior treatment matches the exterior with the three Pepsi® colors, from the gear knob painting to the very particular 3D blue Foglizzo leather on the seats. The interior immediately calls to mind the effervescent bubbles of a refreshing Pepsi thanks to a special procedure of inserting a soft support inside the leather to recreate the 3D bubble effect on the seats upholstered in white and blue leather produced by Foglizzo, and the Garage Italia Customs artisans skillfully embroidered the iconic Pepsi® globe on the head rests.

The interior comes to life when a Pepsi® can is placed into the specific compartment in the center tunnel. A sensor activates the red DreamLux textile used to cover the headliner and door panels. Light is conducted through the optical fiber woven into the material lighting up the whole inside of the car.

After Milan Design Week 2016, the Fiat 500 Pepsi® “Live for Now” Car will be presented at various European events before heading to the Unites States.

Polka Dots  and Pinstripes

These two new smart fortwo versions are the first models for the launch of the smart Garage Italia Collection. It is the first special series created by Garage Italia Customs for a car company.

The smart Garage Italia Collection resulted from the collaboration between Garage Italia Customs and smart, which started with the intention of making a “capsule collection”. The collection will grow with more limited editions during the next months, proposing tailor-made patterns and textures to wrap the cars up with remarkable style and elegance.

The design concept for smart automobiles began at Mercedes in the late 1980s, associated with SMH (Swatch watches). After a brief period of backing by Volkswagen, the first model was launched by Daimler-Benz in October 1998. Marketed in 46 countries throughout Asia, North and South America, Africa, Australia and Europe, production of the smart fortwo had surpassed 1.7 million.

Lapo Elkann on the left

This new project was envisioned by Lapo Elkann, the founder of Garage Italia Customs, who wished to emphasize the strong connection between the world of cars and the world of fashion. The technique used is wrapping, which particularly suits the concept of seasonality and personalization. In fact, it does not limit itself to a choice of color or to car body protection: it turns into a tool to define the vehicle’s personality and distinctiveness.

Research, quality, care for details, top of the range materials and thorough planning have led to the creation of pois (polka dots) and pinstripe. Both are embodied in a passion 70 version of the smartfortwo with twinamic dual-clutch transmission. The graphics were purposefully developed on the body of the small Mercedes by the Garage Italia Customs Style Centre, and then digitally printed on films.

The smart fortwo pois edition is characterized by a texture of black polka dots on a pink background matching the black tridion cell. The Pinstripe version is more serious and traditional with the tones and style of the classic pinstriped suit: gray stripes on a silver background and black tridion.

Glamorous and elegant, these cars are also distinguished for their standard equipment:  trimmings, leather steering wheel and gear stick, Cool & Audio package, panoramic roof, Black/Anthracite seats and mesh fabric dashboard, leather multifunction steering wheel and multifunction color screen with trip computer. The sportiness of the fortwo pinstripe is highlighted by the steering wheel paddle shifters, its lowered suspension and alloy wheels.

Why should you attend a local short track race?

The photograph shows why many fans prefer local short-track racing over televised INDYCAR or NASCAR racing. Bay Cities Racing Association driver Scott Pierovich was down on his knees working on his race car before time trials yesterday afternoon at Madera Speedway.

Compare  that to the INDYCAR and NASCAR stars who when they aren't in their car, retreat to their air-conditioned motor homes or are giving television interviews.

By the way, the changes must have worked- Scott set fast time.

If this perks your interest, check out the rest of the BRA season schedule at http://www.bcraracing.com/midget-schedule/
