Defending Chili Bowl champion Rico Abreu pretty much had things his own way Wednesday night at the 30th annual Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa Oklahoma by winning his heat race, qualifier race and the feature.

Nick Drake, son of 2001 Chili Bowl champion Jay Drake, and Austin Prock, son of NHRA tuner Jimmy Prock, both had strong performances in their respective heat races but could not advance to start the evening’s feature race.

Thomas Meseraull , Tyler Thomas and young Parker Price-Miller also posted strong performances throughout the evening to start in the evening’s A main feature.  Thomas led the feature early, but just past half distance, Abreu put the power of the Keith Kunz Toyota to work and took the lead which he would never relinquish, while Mesaraull and Price-Miller battled for third, with Meseraull nipping Price-Miller for third place at the drop of the checkered flag.

Five-time Chili Bowl champion Sammy Swindell had a rough evening thst started with a sub-par heat race performance which forced Swindell to run through the C and B features to start towards the back of the A feature. During the A feature Swindell had a number of incidents and was never a factor.

Shannon McQueen’s debut of the Kara Hendrick tribute car was also disappointing as she failed to transfer out of her C feature after she was involved in several tangles and her evening ended early.
